Forest Trust to acquire Devil's Beef Tub
Borders Forest Trust (BFT) has revealed that it has raised the £700,000 needed to acquire 1,580 acres (639.4 hectares) of land at Corehead Farm near Moffat, south Scotland.
The area of land, which includes the Devil's Beef Tub and adjacent hills, will now be brought into conservation management by the Trust as part of proposals to restore the Ettrick Forest. In May, the Scottish Parliament backed BFT's plans to acquire the Corehead Farm site from former owners John and Berenice Williams, while the Tubny Charitable Trust has provided a conditional grant of £200,000 for the management of the land.
The trust now plans to use the land as a demonstration site for combining conservation with traditional farming methods.
