Football League crowds reach 50-year high
More than 17 million people attended Football League matches during the 2009-10 season - the highest amount since 1959-60.
New figures released by the Football League have shown a 4.4 per cent rise in attendances compared with the previous season, with crowds having doubled during the last 25 years. According to the Football League, the Coca-Cola Championship is the fourth most-watched league in Europe - reporting a total audience of more than 9.9 million people.
Football League chair Greg Clarke said: "Attracting more than 17 million fans into their grounds is an outstanding achievement by Football League clubs, particularly in the current economic climate. "Our clubs are focussed on attracting a new, family audience to football and those efforts are clearly working."
