A new all-weather sports pitch will open this Thursday (12 February) at Hinchingbrooke School in Huntingdon.
The floodlit pitch will be available to all schools, clubs and community groups in the surrounding area.
Cllr Martin Curtis, county council cabinet member for children, said: “I am delighted that Hinchingbrooke now has such a fantastic sports facility. This pitch will be a great asset, both to students at the schools and the local community.”
The Football Foundation funded the £386,000 development, in addition to providing £82,440 towards the salary costs of a football development officer over the next five years. The officer will manage all sports activity at the site and oversee the implementation of the football development plan.
Paul Thorogood, CEO of the foundation, added: “This new all-weather pitch will really benefit local people of all ages. It is thanks to the contributions of our funding partners — the Premier League, Football Association and government — that the Football Foundation exists to invest in projects such as this.”
