Fitness First launches SHOKK studio programme
Fitness First has linked up with schools to launch the SHOKK FX GROOVE studio programme to 11- to 18-year-olds.
In an initial trial of the programme, the company has selected a range of instructors – both freelance and staff – to deliver classes to more than 100 schools in the north east and central regions.
The dance-based programme has been developed by group exercise training company, fitness fx, and youth fitness specialist, SHOKK and will be held at schools as well as Fitness First sites in the evenings and at weekends.
The company aims to roll the programme out across the rest of the estate if the trial is successful, said Kevin Yates, national fitness manager for Fitness First.
“Levels of children’s inactivity is a problem for schools and it is an area where the health and fitness industry can really put something back into the community,” he said.
“As the second largest health club chain in the world, Fitness First is committed to pioneering these partnerships with schools in order to increase the links between exercise and education.”
Sandra Cooper, head of business and enterprise at Priory School in Shropshire said the classes have been well received by the children.
“We initially started with one class after school and we timed it just before our year 11 (15-year-olds) were due to sit their mock exams; trying to make them aware that exercise is also a good way to help relieve stress,” she said.
“Feedback was extremely positive, the students loved the class so much that they asked if they could keep them going on a regular basis.”
