First recipients of families' art fund revealed
Arts Council England (ACE), London has revealed the first five projects to receive funding as part of a new programme designed to encourage more families to enjoy art together.
Worth a total of £25,000, the one-off Families development fund forms part of the organisation's wider efforts to engage more people in the arts, which has included work with local authorities and older people. The Tate and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have teamed up to launch Musical Pictures, a new scheme designed to break down "the perceived barriers" to the art gallery and classical music sectors.
Musical Pictures has secured £5,000 from ACE, London to create a model of best practice for family-orientated gallery and music workshops that aim to retain participants and audiences. South London Gallery in Southwark; Polka Theatre in Merton; Audiences London and Entelechy have also been granted £5,000 towards a range of projects designed to entice families' enjoyment of the arts.
ACE, London executive director Moira Sinclair said: "This fund will allow organisations to look at new models for family audiences that will benefit the broader sector, as well as enabling more families to take advantage of the great cultural offer we have here in London."
