ETC UK projects New Year celebrations
Large format projection specialists ETC UK used London's Shell Building on the south bank of the Thames as a backdrop during the city's New Year's Eve 2004/05 celebrations.
Working for show and event producers Jack Morton Worldwide (JMW), ETCs projections were part of 'London Lights', a pyrotechnic and lighting display aimed at catching the spirit of London as the year rolled over and reinforcing the city's bid for the 2012 Olympics.
Having used the structure several times previously on which to project - most recently on Remembrance Day 2004 - this time the company covered its full surface with eight PIGI 6Kw projectors to produce extra bright images. In the past, six have been used for the images, with two for accompanying text.
The projectors were sited 150m away on the edge of Jubilee Gardens in a curtain-sider truck, with each producing a 50m x 50m image overlaid for maximum brightness.
Artwork for over 120 slides was designed by JMW, with ETC undertaking all the camera obscura work to do the perspective correction and fit them to the building. The images ranged from Underground signs to belisha beacons and theatre show graphics to Big Ben, with the full display taking ten minutes.
