Derby arts venue faces council funding cut
Derby's Quad Arts Centre is to have its local authority funding support withdrawn over the next four years, which is expected to result in a loss of income of more than £600,000 for the period.
Quad chief executive Keith Jeffrey called the decision as "extremely bad news, not only for Quad but also the city" and said the decision made Derby less appealing to investors.
Derby City Council (DCC) aims for the venue to find alternative income streams or become self-sustaining, with the city's Deda facility also facing the same withdrawal of support.
Jeffrey said: "We had already accepted that DCC funding would be cut by 30 per cent and have put in place plans to deal with this.
"This reduction comes as an unexpected hammer blow and directly puts in jeopardy activities such as Derby Festé and the Format international photography festival."
DCC's decision to withdraw support to Quad has come amid efforts to achieve savings of nearly £23m in 2012-13, brought on by government cuts and a council tax freeze.
