Councillors reject Fleetwood pier plans

Plans for the redevelopment of a former pier site in Fleetwood, Lancashire, have been dismissed by planning officers at Wyre Borough Council (WBC).
Eight of the council's 10-member planning committee opposed the revised proposals, which were drawn up by SDMK Design and submitted by Simmo Developments. A mixed-use development including a 43-bedroom hotel; gym and leisure facilities; restaurants/cafés; and a bar was mooted for the resort's former pier site.
However, the scale and design of the complex was thought to be out of keeping with the promenade setting, while concerns had also been raised over the adequacy of servicing provision.
