Councillors approve Wiltshire leisure proposals
Plans for an overhaul and reorganisation of indoor leisure facilities across Wiltshire have been given the green light by the local authority.
Wiltshire County Council (WCC) has backed a refined proposal, which will include four new-build 'campus' schemes and improvements to other sites. Warminster, Melksham, Trowbridge and Amesbury/Durrington are the locations in line to benefit from the new facilities.
Improvements are to be carried out Devizes Leisure Centre and the Five Rivers facility in Salisbury, in addition to the refurbishment of the Olympiad campus. Other measures approved by councillors will see centres in Calne, Cricklade and Downton continue as independently-operated venues.
Seven facilities are to remain the responsibility of WCC having previously been earmarked for transfer to local management, such as Bradford and Westbury pools.
