Council confirms Corwen Pavilion closure
Denbighshire County Council (DCC) has revealed that a multi-purpose pavilion in Corwen, North Wales, has been forced to close due to health and safety issues.
Preliminary investigations carried out in preparation for renovation work found "substantial" electrical faults throughout the facility, while surveys by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service also raised concerns. DCC leader Hugh Evans said: "As the building has aged, problems have increased to the point where there is little to be gained from continuing to use a 'sticking plaster' approach and we now need to find a better solution for the people of Corwen."
Jamie Groves, the council's head of leisure and youth services, added: "We had raised a substantial amount of funding, which was to be invested in the building, but the results from the investigations mean that the building is not safe and is no longer fit for purpose."
