Liverpool superclub Cream, is the latest big name in clubbing to scale down its operations.

One of the most famous brands of the 1990s, the company is to close for a 30 day review to assess the future of its nightclub operations after experiencing a significant shift away from its weekly club nights.

The announcement follows the recent decision by fellow superclub, Gategrasher in Sheffield, to move from a weekly to monthly event as people turn their backs on the huge brands that once dominated the UK clubbing scene.

The club's management said that large-scale events such as the highly successful Creamfields weekend festivals were increasingly popular among clubbers and it was time to assess the brand. 'It's clear young people want so much more from the Cream experience. Ten years on it is time to re-evaluate where we are as a company and assess where that fits into today's market,' said Cream Group CEO, James Barton.

As well as hosting club nights, Cream is expanding into new forms of events, music and media. The company's international events arm has produced more than 400 events this year and the company is further developing its interests in television and radio. 'Cream continues to be at the forefront of global youth culture,' says Barton.
