City of Dreams opens in Macau
The new City of Dreams entertainment resort has opened in Macau, Asia, at the heart of Cotai - a 5.2km island earmarked by the Macau Government for regeneration.
Developed by Melco Crown Entertainment, the resort features a 420,000sq ft casino, more than 20 bars and restaurants, a shopping district, a dome-shaped multimedia theatre and a performance theatre. The resort also boasts three hotels: the 322-room Hard Rock Hotel - operated by Hard Rock International - the 286-bedroom Crown Towers and the 800-room Grand Hyatt Macau, which is expected to open towards the end of 2009. The final phase of the development includes the addition of an 800-room apartment hotel.
Cotai is located between Taipa and Coloane islands and was masterplanned by the government to offer a new gambling and tourism area. Already situated on the island is Galaxy entertainment's Grand Waldo Hotel and the Venetian Macao hotel and casino resort, owned by Las Vegas Sands corporation.
