Children take on veterans challenge
The K2 leisure centre in Crawley played host to a Veterans Challenge for local school children last month to commemorate Armed Forces Day.
The Cadet Forces, TA members, regular servicemen and women and veterans from WW2, Aden and Afghanistan, helped to supervise the games, which included challenges such as walking the plank, where teams had to co-ordinate to make planks of wood with rope handles 'walk' whilst standing on them.
Other games included a welly race, where each member of the team had to wear Wellington boots filled with water and empty the remaining liquid into a container; a bouncy castle-style assault course; and a blindfold walk, where children had to negotiate an obstacle course blindfolded, while one team member guides them with only their voice.
Armed Forces Day, previously called Veterans Day, aims to improve awareness of veterans and their contribution to the country in their past and their continuing contribution since they have left the armed services.
