Lancaster City Council is to decide on whether to approve plans to build a new casino in the town.
The council's planning committee has been recommended to grant permission to proposals by developer Andrew Brakewell, to convert a vacant office block into a new mixed-use space.
If approved, the proposals would see two floors of the three-storey Riversway House site turned into the new casino, with the second floor retained as office space. The casino's management suite, catering and hospitality would be situated on the ground floor, while the gaming room would be located on the first floor.
A planning report put to the committee said that there were 10 objections, including one from a nearby school on the grounds of concerns over the potential social impact of gambling. However, the report said: "This alone is not a valid planning reason for objection."
The council has until 3 November to reach a final decision.
