CIEH calls for further Welsh sunbed rules
New legislation requiring sunbed businesses to prohibit under-18s using their facilities has been welcomed as a 'first step' by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
The organisation has now urged the Welsh Assembly Government to introduce additional 'subsidiary' measures available to it under the Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010. Sunbed businesses face a fine of up to £20,000 if under-18s use their facilities, following the introduction of the new legislation effective from today (8 April).
However, the CIEH said Welsh firms should be subjected to additional measures that could further restrict the sale, hire or provision of sunbeds - particularly in unsupervised salons.
