According to the president of Spa Finder Japan, Yoriko Soma, the Japanese hotel day spa industry is currently experiencing an economic boom.
This has been attributed to Japanese consumer interest in health continuing to rise and the widescale retirement from this year of the Baby Boomer generation in Japan – defined by sociologists as those born between the years of 1946 and 1964.
Hotel groups in Japan have also been building spas to make their facilities more attractive to both the internal and external tourist markets.
Soma said: “I expect the Japanese spa industry to grow significantly in the next three years, particularly in the hotel and resort spa category. Already, we are getting news every week of day spas opening in Tokyo, Osaka and Kobe. There is lots of interest in reaching out to these consumers.”
According to Soma, the number of Japanese tourists visiting spa resorts in Asia and Hawaii is also on the rise.
