By Caroline Wilkinson
Hilton Hotels Corporation has secured franchise agreements to rebrand two five-star London properties, one of which will become the UK's first Waldorf-Astoria.
The 64-room Bentley hotel in Knightsbridge will become the second Waldorf-Astoria to open in Europe, thanks to a franchise agreement with International Luxury Hotels. The first is located in Rome.
The second property, the 112-bedroom Courthouse Hotel in London's West End – a former Kempinski hotel –will be converted into a Doubletree by Hilton property after a franchise deal was signed with Surejogi GMS. It will be the first Doubletree brand in central London.
Doubletree branded hotels are designed to reflect the property's local area. They are currently featured in 190 locations worldwide, predominantly in the United States and there are plans to open branded hotels across the world including Canada, Costa Rica, Peru, Russia and Thailand.
A Hilton spokesperson said: "The hotel is undergoing a fast-track conversion and is expected to officially become branded as the Courthouse Doubletree by Hilton London - Regent Street shortly.
"Plans to double the UK and Ireland estate, through the Hilton Family of Hotels, from the existing 77 hotels to 150, remains on track," she added.
