BBPA: Government hit by falling beer sales
New figures from the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) have revealed the impact of falling UK beer sales on the government's tax revenues.
According to the trade group, an extra £257m would have been generated for the Treasury if 2009 beer volumes had been maintained during 2010. However, the BBPA has posted a 3.9 per cent drop in total UK beer sales in 2010, with pub beer sales down by 7.5 per cent. Off-trade sales remained "relatively stable".
