BAA passenger figures down in June
Passenger traffic through BAA's UK airports in June was down 1.7 per cent on the same period last year to 9.5 million passengers, affected by industrial action by British Airways (BA) cabin crew.
Without the effect of the strikes, BAA estimates that Heathrow would have seen 140,000 more passengers during the period, a 2.5 per cent rise on last June. The group's airports at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen were similarly affected by the industrial action at BA, with drops of 2.0 per cent, 7.0 per cent and 4.0 per cent respectively compared to June 2009. Southampton recorded a 3.7 per cent increase and Stansted a drop of 5.2 per cent.
Group wide, BAA says that passenger numbers would have reached the same levels of June 2009 levels without the impact of industrial action.
