April boost for UK's pubs and restaurants
Some of the UK's leading pub and restaurant operators were handed a boost during April, with school holidays and the Royal Wedding bank holiday helping to drive up sales.
According to the Coffer Peach Business Tracker, monthly like-for-like sales were up nearly 4 per cent on the same period last year. Total sales grew by 6.2 per cent. However, KPMG head of travel, leisure and travel Richard Hathway said that figures for the Easter weekend were down as a result of hot weather encouraging people to use barbeques.
"While April saw good overall year on year growth, the hot weather brought barbeques out across the country and as a result the Easter weekend was itself significantly down on 2010," he said. KPMG produces the tracker in partnership with UBS, the Coffer Group and Peach Factory.
