New operator for Guildford leisure venues

GLL/Freedom Leisure has been appointed as the new operator for Guildford Spectrum, Ash Manor Sports Centre and Guildford Lido by the local authority.
Guildford Borough Council's (GBC) executive made the decision at its meeting on 16 June, with an initial 10-year management contract to commence on 1 November. In 2009, the council commissioned an independent study to look into the best options for the management of local leisure facilities, which prompted the start of a procurement process.
GBC lead councillor for service transformation Nigel Manning said: "GLL/Freedom Leisure will pay us a fee of over £800,000 each year, with any excess income reinvested by the council in its services."
