NRG Gyms keen for more acquisitions, following purchase of Pump Gyms
NRG Gyms has announced the acquisition of Pump Gyms, expanding its UK estate from seven to 12 sites and almost doubling the number of members.
Founder, CEO and chair, Shafiq Ahmed, says: “As we integrate Pump Gyms into the NRG family, I’m excited to deliver on our investment plans and bring our vision of best-in-class, inclusive gyms to even more communities – focused on community, aspiration, and performance and ensuring the best possible experience for every member of our tribe.
“Since opening our first gym in Gravesend in 2012, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved. Anyone working in the sector knows the challenges of building a gym brand. We’ve stayed true to our values, been principled in our decision-making, resilient when needed and agile to evolve and adapt to retain our relevance and consistently grow our membership.”
The company is looking for further opportunities to grow via acquisition, backed by Puma Growth Partners, which invested £4 million in the high-value low-cost operator this January.
There are lots of synergies between the two brands, both offering 24/7 access, no contracts, spacious, well equipped gyms and classes and the deal is understaood to have strengthened the company's overall financial position.
This extends NRG Gym’s coverage across the UK. Its existing sites are in the north of England and outer London. The five Pump Gyms are spread across the south east – Bedford, Colchester, Hatfield, Northampton and Norwich.
“The integration of these sites will allow us to unlock operational synergies, deliver strong returns from targeted capex projects and accelerate investment in our digital and technology innovation roadmap. With enhanced cashflow and increased debt capacity, we're positioned to continue our organic rollout and pursue further consolidation opportunities in the market,” said Ahmed
Five more NRG gyms are coming soon in Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham, Liverpool and Warrington.
