'Innovative' Redditch project to commence
An "innovative" project, which will see heat generated from the flue gas cleaning process at Redditch Crematorium reused at a nearby leisure centre, is to get underway next week.
Work will connect the town's new Abbey Stadium Leisure Centre to the crematorium, which is thought to be the first scheme of its kind to be undertaken in the UK.
When complete, 100 per cent of the heat energy generated from the flue gas cleaning process at the crematorium will be transferred to the facility and will help reduce running costs.
RBC portfolio holder for local environment Brandon Clayton said: "This is a vital part of making this innovative new way to save energy work, but we understand that any work taking place in the cemetery has to be treated sensitively."
Solar thermal hot water systems are also being proposed for the new Abbey Stadium Leisure Centre, which is being revamped to offer a new swimming pool and is due to open in 2012.
