Council to discuss revised Surrey leisure centre plans

Members of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council's (RBBC) executive are set to discuss revised proposals for new leisure facilities in Preston, Surrey, later this week (31 May).
Last July, the local authority agreed a £6.6m budget for the construction of a new leisure centre on Merland Rise - including a 25m, six-lane pool and a 50-station gym.
However, councillors are now being asked to approve an increased budget worth £8.62m for the scheme, following successful discussions with Surrey County Council.
The additional funding will allow for the inclusion of a sports/community hall and a second studio, as well as adjoining youth facilities.
RBBC executive member for healthy communities Adam De Save said: "This is an exciting step towards the new leisure, community and youth facilities that Preston residents want and need."
"By pooling our resources, we have been able to come up with a proposal which will provide much better facilities for the community, whilst providing good value for money."
