Managing the keys for hundreds of lockers in fitness centres and gyms can be a real headache, with keys getting lost, being taken home or snapping off in the lock.

Someone then has to call out a locksmith to repair the cylinder which wastes time and money and renders the locker unusable until it's fixed. When Piazza Sports Health and Fitness Club in Houten, Netherlands, refurbished their changing rooms with smart new lockers, they decided to look for a solution that would remove the use of keys altogether. The product they needed had to look good as well as being easy to use.

The club installed electronic push button locks from Codelocks on all the lockers in their male and female changing rooms. A blue light indicates an empty locker and a red light shows one in use.

Users can select any 4-digit code to lock the locker and then go and work out in the gym without having to take a key. Piazza Sports' Robin Veen said: "The quality of the locks is good and we definitely spend less time sorting out issues with lockers than we did with our old key-system."
