£10m funding for Pontypool regeneration
Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) has been handed a £10m funding package from the Welsh Assembly Government towards the regeneration of Pontypool.
The European Regional Development Fund, the Targeted Match Fund and the Heads of the Valleys programme have contributed towards the council's £13.5m vision for the town. Among the plans for Pontypool is the renovation of the Grade II-listed indoor market and the restoration of vacant and rundown buildings to provide training opportunities.
Enhanced walking and cycling routes will also be included in the raft of improvements that are planned for the town centre in a bid to attract more visitors. TCBC leader Bob Wellington said: "This project will increase economic investment into the area and raise resident and business confidence."
