US$3.2m for Taylor University scheme
A group of benefactors has pledged US$3.2m (£2.1m, EUR2.4m) towards a redevelopment of Taylor University's sports complex at the institution's campus in Upland, Indiana, US.
The scheme will transform the Jim Wheeler Memorial Stadium from a venue that hosts only American Football games to one that can also accommodate soccer.
New permanent seating, an artificial turf pitch and permanent lighting are planned, along with a new scoreboard and a full-sized football/soccer practice pitch with artificial turf and lights.
It is hoped that work will start in early 2012 and will be completed by 1 August. The work is also part of a wider Taylor University's scheme to overhaul its athletic fields and facilities.
Dr Angie Fincannon, the university's director of athletics, said: "This addition to our athletic facilities will make positive and immediate impact for the campus."
