SLM to operate Basildon leisure centres

Basildon District Council (BDC) has confirmed that Sports and Leisure Management (SLM) has been appointed to operate its leisure facilities.
SLM will run Pitsea Swimming Pool, Wickford Swimming Pool and Eversley Leisure Centre on behalf ot the local authority under the new arrangement. The operator had put forward a proposal to manage the three venues as part of a tender process for the new Basildon Sporting Village.
BDC cabinet member for leisure and the arts Kevin Blake said: "SLM have a great track record in providing leisure services and through running all of the sites they will be able to offer membership packages across the facilities." SLM will commence operation of the three venues from March 2011 under the Everyone Active banner, with plans in place to upgrade fitness equipment at Eversley Leisure Centre.
