New tennis facilities for Clapham Common
Lambeth Council and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) have officially unveiled new tennis courts at Clapham Common in London, following a £250,000 joint investment.
Eight courts have been refurbished as part of the scheme, while five will benefit from new floodlighting. New LTA-standard surfacing and fencing have been provided, while facilities are accessible for disabled users. Lambeth Council head of sport and recreation Derek Prentice said: "This investment means thousands of people in Lambeth now have access to public tennis courts that meet the highest national standards."
LTA chief executive Roger Draper added: "We're committed to expanding opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to play tennis, and investment in parks is a key part of that drive." Lambeth Council invested £150,000 in the Clapham Common facility, in addition to a £100,000 contribution from the LTA.
