New Olympic legacy fund for Southwark
Southwark Council has pledged to establish a £2m Olympic 'legacy fund' to provide investment for local sports and cultural projects.
The funding, which is subject to final approval next year, will benefit a range of projects designed to engage young people and promote healthy lifestyles. Meanwhile, former cycling world champion Tony Doyle has been named as the council's '2012 chief' as part of its new Olympic Delivery Board.
Elsewhere, the Olympic Capital Legacy Group - including council leader Peter John and shadow Olympics minister Tessa Jowell - will co-ordinate funding.
