New £2.3m Larne sports facility unveiled
A £2.3m sports facility - The Cliff - has been officially unveiled in Larne, Northern Ireland, by Tyrone Gaelic football manager Mickey Harte and the town's mayor, Bobby McKee.
The complex boasts a full-sized, floodlit 3G pitch with changing areas; an education/seminar room; and an indoor hall to cater for a range of sports and physical activities. It is also hoped that The Cliff, which received £1.2m from Sport Northern Ireland (SNI), will offer new opportunities for under-represented groups to participate in sport.
SNI chief executive Eamonn McCartan said: "The community has worked tirelessly to deliver a fit for purpose, quality facility, and are now concentrating on offering the best of coaching and training programmes for sportsmen and women. The Cliff chair Bertie Shaw added: "The Cliff is state of the art and with a wide range of activities for everyone it is open to the whole community."
Larne Borough Council also contributed £200,000 towards the project.
