Movementum forms partnership with the UK’s first National Rehabilitation Centre
Movementum Natural Health Systems has teamed up with the UK’s first National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) to create post-rehabilitation support programmes for patients when they leave.
Opening this year as part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme, the £105 million, 70-bed centre will offer people who have experienced a life-changing illness or injury some of the best rehabilitation available in the NHS. This will be followed up with a three-year, post-treatment support programme to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle when they return home.
NRC director, Miriam Duffy says: “A patient’s rehabilitation journey doesn’t stop when they leave the NRC. We hope that this partnership with Movementum will enable us to support our patients from immediate post-rehabilitation through to maintaining long-term lifestyle changes, aiming to prevent complications and readmissions in their life-long rehabilitation journey.”
Movementum Natural Health Systems is a specialist wellbeing organisation, founded by Stephen Price, which is dedicated to integrating the expertise of the sports science and health industries into mainstream healthcare.
Movementum creates structured pathways, combining clinical exercise prescription with behavioural coaching, which support patients in maintaining their recovery and preventing future illness.
The organisation champions “Movement Health" as a primary clinical discipline. This partnership will involve the creation of the new role of Movement Health Professional with the remit to bridge the gap between acute clinical care and long-term wellbeing.
Also as part of the collaboration, a colleague wellbeing programme is being explored, as well as an education programme to teach children and their teachers, at selected schools, about the importance of fitness and wellbeing.
Price, said: “This collaboration marks a revolutionary step towards transforming national wellbeing. We are bridging the critical gap between acute clinical care and long-term health, ensuring patients don't just recover, but thrive for years after leaving the centre.
“By combining performance technology and methodologies with a new generation of Movement Health Professionals, we can support not just patients and their families, but also clinicians and the wider community, including local schools.”
Based near Loughborough and run and staffed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, the NRC will be a national hub for innovation, cutting-edge research and development, training and education involving a national network of 26 UK universities.
