Keynsham school sports hall plans submitted
Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES) has submitted its plans for a new £3.1m sports hall at Wellsway School, Keynsham.
The proposals have been drawn up to enhance the quality of the school's facilities, which was awarded specialist sports status two years ago. Members of the community will have the opportunity to use the sports hall, in addition to pupils at the school.
Facilities will include a large sports hall; a dance studio; a fitness suite with free weights; changing facilities; and a teaching area. A decision is expected to be made in early 2011. If approved, work is due to commence in June 2011 and will be completed in April 2012.
BANES cabinet member for children's services Chris Watt said: "This will be a fantastic facility for the pupils at Wellsway and the wider community too." Wellsway School headteacher Angela Arlidge added: "The new facility is central to our operation as a Specialist Sports College and we hope that other schools and our local community will also benefit from it."
