A new leisure centre called The Zone has opened in Huddersfield, opposite the Galpham Stadium, home of Huddersfield Football Club and rugby league’s Huddersfield Giants.
The health and fitness venue offers a SHOKK Gym Zone; Dance Zone equipped with SHOKK dance mat classes; Learning Zone; Sports Zone, incorporating two of the largest third-generation indoor pitches in Yorkshire, and a Kids Zone showcasing the largest soft play structure in Yorkshire.
Kieran Murphy, marketing director for SHOKK, said: “The Zone is an outstanding example of how one community is tackling the growing obesity issue. The facilities cater for adults and children but the emphasis is definitely on getting children involved in sport from a very young age.”
The Sporting Pride Community Trust will manage the new community-focused health and fitness centre.
Chair of the trust, Roger Armitage, said: “We are looking to encourage children in particular and adults to adopt healthier lifestyles through sport. The Gym Zone is a SHOKK youth facility which incorporates fitness equipment specifically designed to accommodate growing minds and bodies. It is unique in Huddersfield and we expect it to be extremely popular.”
