Health club plans for Reading town centre
A new 18,000sq ft (1,700sq m) health club is set to be built as part of a new £9.5m retail, office and luxury apartment development being undertaken by Brook Henderson Estates in Reading.
Designed by Bedford-based Rae Sport and Leisure Consultants in conjunction with Stephen Taylor Architects of London, the £4.5m split-level club, located on the first and second floors of the shopping centre, will boast a large gym, swimming pool, two dance studios and a spa and hydrotherapy area with steamroom and sauna.
Rae Sport and Leisure is currently in negotiations with potential operators – the operator will then help select the equipment supplier.
Work is due to start on the 2,500-capacity club in October for completion in November 2007. Pre-sales will begin in September 2007.
“The health club is to be developed to a high specification and is aimed at both the business and private market,” said managing partner of Rae Sport and Leisure, Andrew Petherick.
“Research clearly indicates a need for a health club facility in the centre of Reading and the site represents an ideal location close to both the main retail outlets and office sector of this rapidly developing town.”
