Gedling Council plans kids' gym
Gedling Borough Council plans to open a children’s gym at the Carlton Forum Leisure Centre, which is currently undergoing a major refurbishment programme.
The council has put in a development bid for a children’s fitness facility at the Carlton Forum Leisure Centre, which it hopes to open next year.
“It's very early days, but we’re working with the primary care trust to get a children’s gym at the Carlton centre,” said leisure facilities officer, Ashley Marriott. “We’ve just started to welcome children under the GP Referral scheme, so we’re particularly keen to get this.”
Located to the north of Nottingham, the Carlton Forum centre is the largest of the council’s five leisure facilities and is the latest to undergo renovations as the facilities enjoy a dramatic increase in attendance.
“July, August and September proved to be our best quarter since the introduction of our direct debiting system two years ago,” said Marriott. “We’re seeing a huge increase in throughput at our facilities and are attracting groups of people we never have before. So we understand the importance of improving our offer. ”
At Carlton Forum these improvements include converting part of the sports hall to expand the health and fitness suite, which will include equipment from Life Fitness’s Signature and 95Ti range.
Particular attention is being paid to the design of the facility to appeal to women, who currently represent two thirds of the membership, said Marriott. “We know the female market is a growth area, so we’re catering for the female audience by creating a less intimidating area by looking at the finishes, positioning of equipment, even our marketing material.”
