Figures reveal West Lothian tourism growth
West Lothian's tourism industry injected £147.65m into the local economy during 2009 - an increase of 6 per cent on the previous year, according to new figures.
A study from the Scottish Tourism Economic Activity Monitor (STEAM) has found that attractions Almond Valley and Linlithgow Palace saw an 18.45 and a 27.35 per cent increase in visitor numbers respectively. Martyn Day, executive councillor for development and transport at West Lothian Council, said: "Not only do these positive figures highlight that more people are coming to visit West Lothian, but they come at a time when there is a lot of doom and gloom surrounding the economy.
"There's no doubt that a global recession is having an impact on the West Lothian economy and further challenges lie ahead, however, we should all be delighted with these findings and build upon them for future years."
