Durham leisure proposals move forward
Durham County Council (DCC) is to consider proposals submitted by community groups and local businesses for the future management of six leisure centres.
A deadline for submissions has now passed and councillors will now consider applications before deciding upon the future of the facilities. It follows a three-month consultation held earlier this year to seek alternatives to closure for the six leisure centres, amid DCC's effort to save £123.5m over the next four years.
The centres are Abbey Leisure Centre; Coxhoe Leisure Centre; Deerness Leisure Centre; Ferryhill Leisure Centre; Glenholme Leisure Centre - Crook; and Sherburn Leisure Centre. DCC said it had received 19 bids from ten organisations in relation to all six facilities.
