Cycling boss outlines revamp framework
Jonathan Vaughters, director of the Garmin-Cervelo cycling team, has outlined his 10-point vision designed to help put the sport 'on the level' of football's Premier League.
Speaking to the BBC, Vaughters has called for the introduction of more races at the highest level outside Europe and a consistent format for supporters. Other proposals earmarked by Vaughters in his 10-point plan include a greater focus on the prevention of doping and technological advancement, such as bike-mounted cameras.
GPS tracking of individual riders; equipment innovation; more team time-trials; open radios to listen to teams; and a clear way to determine the world's best rider were also put forward. Vaughters told the BBC: "If you look at cycling's demographic it should be infinitely more successful than it is. It should be on the level of Premier Football."
