Council reveals Ryde town square plans
Isle of Wight Council (IOWC) has confirmed plans for a new town square in Ryde, which is to be created as part of an ongoing scheme to improve the area's public realm.
Work is due to commence on 11 October and will see the square built at the junction of High Street and John Street, including benches and trees. The project is expected to take up to eight weeks to complete. IOWC cabinet member responsible for the environment Edward Giles said: "The designs have been drawn up in consultation with Ryde Business Association and Ryde Town Council as well as the local councillors."
Tesco has provided funding for the public square as part of its planning application for the reconstruction of its supermarket on the outskirts of the town.
