Council moves to secure planetarium's future

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has safeguarded the future of Wynyard Planetarium in Thorpe Thewles, following a review of how it could operate the venue while cutting costs.
The local authority has confirmed that the attraction will remain open to the public, although it will operate with reduced opening hours. Educational activities will continue to run. Mary Womphrey, the council's cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: "The planetarium has been reviewed as we look at ways of making efficiency savings.
"It is wonderful we have found a way to maintain the facility which is sustainable in the longer term."
