BEDA doubts London club raid will have further implications
A leading body in the nightclub industry has said it does not think the drugs raid at London nightclub The Fridge will lead to further implications for the trade.
The Fridge, Brixton, was subjected to a police raid on 15 April, which led to 11 arrests, and the seizing of drugs and cash.
Police officers, reportedly around 200, stormed the club at around 11pm following a two-month intelligence-led operation.
Officers recovered illegal substances believed to include cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamines.
Jon Collins, chief executive of Bar Entertainment and Dance Association (BEDA), said: “A huge amount of work has been carried out with the Home Office to make the club industry a partner when tackling drug misuse. I hope that the incident at The Fridge will not jeopardise that partnership.”
He added: “I wouldn’t expect the raid to have further implications, but there may be more scrutiny on venues for a while.”
A spokesperson for the Clubs and Vice unit at Scotland Yard, which was involved with the raid, said: “We are not targeting clubs. We target wherever drugs are dealt.”
No-one at The Fridge was available for comment.
