Yorkshire's new gym in the great outdoors
The Great Outdoor Gym Company has supplied the kit for a new 'free to use' outdoor gym in Dewsbury.
Kirklees Council invested £30,000 in the development of the facility which is next to the children’s play area in Dewsbury’s Crows Nest Park and opened on 7 April.
The equipment, similar to that provided in a conventional gym but of a more basic design and a great deal more robust to make it weatherproof, comes from TGOGC's Legacy Gym range.
This includes a chest press, combi chest lat press, combi stepper and oblique, crosstrainer. dips, lat pull down, leg press, pull ups, sit ups, ski, stretch point, thai chi, treadmill and bike.
These are available in Bronze, Silver and Gold sets which feature - respectively - six, nine and all fourteen items. All are safety standard compliant to EN1176 and EN957 and come in a green and black colour scheme. They also carry double sided inclusive instructional panelling with start and finish diagrams.
A similar range is available in blue, pink and yellow under the Street Gym brand, with the sets being Local, Urban and Metro.
The Dewsbury facility has been called The Steve Backley Legacy Gym, named for the three times Olympic javelin medallist. It is just one of a number of such gyms scheduled for opening throughout the year.
