Ulster Museum in Northern Ireland has closed in preparation for a three-year, £12m redevelopment project.
Operated by National Museums Northern Ireland, the revamp is intended to turn the attraction into a more interactive, user-friendly museum.
Work will include the construction of a new entrance and arrivals space and a new rooftop gallery as well as the transformation of both the history and natural science galleries.
A café and restaurant will also be built on the ground floor, overlooking the Botanic Gardens.
During the three-year revamp, the museum will continue to work with schools and communities via an outreach programme.
More than 800,000 items previously housed in the museum have been moved to a secret location for the duration of the refurbishment. Details: www.magni.org.uk
