Sheepmount Stadium redevelopment complete

The £3.6m redevelopment of The Sheepmount Athletics Track and Playing Fields has been completed and the stadium handed over to operator Carlisle Leisure, after flooding in January caused delays to the project.
The new-look facility, which received £2m in funding from Sport England and the Football Foundation, now has an eight-lane running track which will enable National League meetings to be held at the stadium for the first time.
The football pitches have been drained and a new clubhouse with referee’s office and changing rooms has been built.
A new gym and fitness room has also been added as well as a clubroom and a training and education room.
“We’re delighted to have finally completed the handover of The Sheepmount after the project was delayed by storms and flooding,” said Jim Douglas, managing director of Carlisle Leisure.
“It’s a fantastic facility and we’re looking forward to putting Carlisle on the map in the athletics and football world.”
The facility is home to 17 football clubs, two athletics clubs, other pitch sports and indoor rifle shooting. Details: www.carlisleleisure.co.uk
