Independent pub operator and brewer Marston’s has acquired the 153-strong pub estate of Eldridge Pope from entrepreneur Michael Cannon.
The £155m deal includes the assumption of Eldridge Pope's £17m debt and will increase Marston's pub estate to 2,485 outlets.
The 153 pubs and bars are located mainly in southern England, and is part of Marston’s strategy of strengthening its presence in the region.
Ralph Findlay, Marston’s chief executive, said: “Eldridge Pope has invested significantly in its business in recent years and offers a high-quality, well-managed estate which complements our existing business both operationally and geographically.”
Marston’s, formerly called Wolverhampton & Dudley also reported that its like for like sales, which exclude new pub openings, were up 7 per cent during the 16 weeks to 20 January.
