London sport show opens in July
Liquid Exhibitions is presenting The Sport Show, to be held at Earls Court, London from 4-6 July.
Endorsed by 20 sports governing bodies, including the FA, Rugby Football Union, England and Wales Cricket Board and UK Athletics, the show aims to increase the level of participation and also educate children on the benefits of a 'healthier lifestyle'.
The show comprises 14 zones, each dedicated to a different sport, under the guidance of sport 'experts' including world champions and premier league stars. Zones include football, rugby, cricket, disability sports, athletics, The Power House, golf, basketball, martial arts, gymnastics, extreme sports, cycling, boxercise and squash. The Great Britain Martial Arts Association will be holding its premiership finals at the show.
As well as competitions and skills workshops, each of the sports governing bodies will be giving out information on how visitors can find their nearest club or association along with advice on getting started or taking the next step. A new sponsorship scheme will also be launched.
Each governing body will recommend two athletes who have 'overcome the odds' to have the opportunity to impress the panel and audience at the show and earn grants of between £250 and £8,000.
Andy Kiwanuka, event director and founder of Liquid Exhibitions, says sport plays a positive and vital role in a child's development: 'It raises self-esteem through personal achievement, promotes team-building skills and encourages friendly competition.'
A party will be held at the show on 5 July to raise funds for the Prince's Trust with DJs from Kiss FM. Day tickets for the show cost £5 for children, £10 for adults. Details: www.thesportshow.com
