Hospitality survey on effects of World Cup

Christie & Co property agents has conducted a qualitative survey to determine the effects of the football World Cup on the German hotel market.
The company asked 50 hoteliers in Germany’s 12 World Cup venues to consider the effects of the event on individual hotel businesses.
In response, more than one third said that they had already improved standards and increased capacity in anticipation of a shortage of accommodation.
Furthermore, 80 per cent expected to raise prices in response to the increased demand.
When asked about the effect of the championship on the 12 host cities, more than 30 per cent anticipated an improvement in hotel supply, 60 per cent did not expect the increased demand to exceed supply and 70 per cent said the additional demand would lead to price hikes in the tourist industry.
