Bedford Borough Council to consider outsourcing of leisure facilities
Bedford Borough Council is considering plans to privatise eight of its leisure services, in an effort to keep operating costs down in the current economic climate.
A report to go before the council on 9 January recommends a tender process to outsource the management of the Oasis Beach Pool, Robinson Pool, Kempston Pool, Bedford International Athletics Stadium, Bunyan Sports Centre, Mowsbury Golf and Squash Centre, Blue Peris Mountain Centre and Kempston Outdoor Centre.
If approved the procurement timetable would begin this month with a bidder shortlist decided by March.
The evaluation process will be based on 45 per cent cost and 55 per cent quality with the selection of the preferred operator to be decided in July and the contract commencing January 2014.
