Procurement practices are driving a race to the bottom in the delivery of public leisure
services, according to Community Leisure UK CEO Cate Atwater. Speaking exclusively to Sports
Management magazine, Atwater said she was worried about the pressures being put on the delivery
of public leisure services, stating that "public services right across the board are under significant
strain to achieve the same or even more, with less financial investment".

According to CEO Cate Atwater, the new name "better reflects" members’ focus on improving the
physical and mental health and wellbeing of communities across the UK. "The new name, brand and
proposition for the association came from bespoke research and is far more representative of our
members’ work," she said.
